Last week, I had the honor of being invited to speak with Dr. Alvia J. Wardlaw’s Museum Studies class about Brown Renfro: The Professor. The Student. The Curator. and my experience bringing this exhibition to life as its curator.

Standing inside the exhibition and sharing the story of my grandfather, Professor Leon Renfro, his student Bruce Brown, and the research and responsibility behind carrying their artistic legacies forward was a full-circle moment for me.

Dr. Wardlaw is one of the nation’s foremost authorities on African American art and curation, and dare I say, the world. She is the director of the University Museum at Texas Southern University and also teaches Museum Studies. To be invited to speak with her students inside an exhibition she trusted me to curate was an honor I do not take lightly.

Life has been moving quickly since the exhibition opened, and I have been so busy living these moments that I am just beginning to catch up and share them. There is still so much more to come. I will soon announce the dates for our upcoming exhibition programming, and I hope you will join us.
