Attending the opening of Sacred Web: The Artistic Lineage of John T. Biggers at the Texas Southern University Museum.
Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend the opening of Sacred Web: The Artistic Lineage of John T. Biggers at the Texas Southern University Museum.
What an incredible exhibition celebrating the artistic vision, teaching legacy, and generations of artists influenced by Dr. John T. Biggers.
For our family, this experience was especially meaningful. My grandfather, Professor Leon Renfro, was a student of Dr. Biggers at Texas Southern University, and it was an honor to see one of his works included in the exhibition alongside other artists connected to Dr. Biggers’ remarkable legacy. Leon Renfro would later go on to teach at Texas Southern University himself, continuing the tradition of artistic excellence and mentorship.
We spent the evening taking in the artwork, studying the details, learning more about the stories behind the pieces, and making meaningful connections that we’ll be sharing in the weeks ahead. It was inspiring to witness how one teacher’s influence continues to ripple across generations of artists, educators, students, and families.
And yes… we took a lot of pictures.
This visit left us with much to reflect on, and we’re looking forward to sharing more from this experience soon.
We don't just hang the art. We carry it on.™
